The biggest temptation is to settle for too little – Thomas Merton
Are you going through life without a clear direction? Are you letting events and others in your life dictate ‘how’ you live?
Your best chance of living the life you want is to know exactly where you want to go, what you want to achieve, who you want with you, and the lifestyle you want to enjoy!
This applies to your health, career, wealth as much as anything else you do. Many of us do this intuitively but only about 5% of us plan it and have a really clear idea of where we want to go.
Do You Have a Plan?
Most of us will spend more time planning a holiday or our retirement than we do on planning for the ‘lifestyle’ we want for day to day living. This means we are living our lives ‘by accident’ or according to the goals or dreams of others. When we do not spend time planning our lives we are like a yacht without a rudder, subject to the vagaries of the wind.
Living Life in Quiet Desperation
Many people are doing things in their lives that they don’t want to do, they are living lives of quiet desperation. They know what they don’t want and have ideas of what they would love to do. But they don’t seem to be able to believe they could live spectacular lives if only they took the time to plan. People often disregard their most inspiring ideas and settle for whatever seems reasonable or whatever comes their way.
When you are doing what you love to do and you have a plan how you are going to do it, you can’t wait to get out of bed in the morning. You live your life ‘on purpose.’ When you are ‘winging’ each day, just going where the day takes you – You are living someone else’s dreams. You will live your life feeling frustrated and unfulfilled!
Live on Purpose
If you want to live with purpose, I encourage you to take some time by yourself to ask yourself the following:
1. What do you want?
2. Why do you want it?
Notice I have not said ask yourself how you are going to get it. When you are crystal clear on what you want and why you want it the how’s will appear.
If you are sick of what you are doing, take the time to research how you would really like to live, what an ideal day would be like and why you want it. After all your destiny is more important than a holiday. Isn’t it?
