Lose weight fast

lose weightJust recently I decided to try the “Paleo” way of eating. For those of you who are not sure what this is, it is basically cutting out grains, sugar, and dairy out of your diet. The theory is that in the past we did not eat these foods as our diet was mainly meat protein supplemented with vegetables and nuts.

Paleo Diet – Yes or No?

Whilst I agree to some extent with this theory, I also disagree with it.  Although early research declared our ancient ancestors ate little grains, and virtually no diary, this theory has been proven incorrect.  In reality, we ate a variety of grains, so cutting these out completely appears not to be a sound choice.

However, if we look at the way grains are produced today, then it definitely seems to be sensible to cut them out.  The No 1 factor for weight gain is eating excess amounts of sugar.   All Grains have large amounts of complex sugars, but in addition, more sugar, plus preservatives are added during the refining and production process.    This is not good news for eating a grain-based diet!

Grain-based Diets

Next time you are in a supermarket, take a look at the amount of sugar in grain-based products. You will be shocked.

Lactose Intolerance

A recent study found 85% of people are lactose intolerant. Lactose is the sugar found in dairy products that are altered during processing and have an addition of sugar. If you take the fat out of milk, you remove most of the taste!  Therefore, producers need to replace ‘the taste’ with something else.  So they do!  Sugar!   Check out the sugar content in ‘low fat’ milk compared to ‘full cream!’   Another shock.

I found eating the “Paleo” way has been a pleasant experience with plenty of great tasting recipes that are easily available. I’ve lost weight with a minimum of fuss.  I don’t snack as much as I used to. It’s taken a bit more planning but once you get into the routine it’s easy.

Be mindful of the grains.  Be mindful of eating sufficient protein – 30grams per meal is required for most adults.  Download the ‘My Fitness Pal’  APP for smart phones.  Use this to check the calories and proteins in your meals.

If you are struggling to lose those kilo’s then give it a try, you have nothing to lose but weight.
